This piece of work  is one of two I created for Alison Moger.  Alison has been commissioned to work with community groups to create 60 pieces of artwork, one for each of the new wards in the dementia unit at Cefn Coed Hospital.  Through workshops at 'Itchy Fingers' art textiles group meetings, we've explored a variety of techniques to create small textile artworks that will be framed and placed above the locker in each room.

Cefn Coed Hospital must have some of the best views of Swansea bay, it also has woodland and beautiful gardens, so we  hope our artwork reflects images from the hospital grounds and surrounding area.  If the artwork stimulates conversation that would be fantastic!

Inspired by Alison's work plus a few seashells, pebbles, rocks and the water's edge, I layered three fabrics the top two being sheers, one of which I attacked with a hot air gun to create a scrunched effect before adding a lighter shade of pale blue and having a lot of fun with  'free motion machine embroidery'!

As a textile designer Alison  loves to explore the use of traditional stitch and print with its narrative qualities. More unusual items such as metal, wire and paper are also used where relevant. Her work reflects on the recycling ethos and the use of well-worn domestic textiles and vintage fabric, it's innovative and contemporary and many pieces are one-offs or commissioned for individuals. Inspired by her surroundings along with family and community life, these individual works of art hold a quirky humour and reflect on childhood, within a close community.  Explore her website, her work is amazing!
