Angie Envy!

Well, a few of us were just a little green with envy when Angie pulled out her latest project in class yesterday!

The shaping on the 'collar' is really stylish
the couched on machine cords  and beads provide additional surface interest

I think Angie was making the flowers for this on her way round her recent trek across Europe - now that's commitment!

It's a well crafted piece with lots of lovely details - even some stamens in the flowers. And if you are fancying it - too late! Angie's daughter has already put in a claim for it - though maybe Angie could be persuaded to take on commissions????

  1. Thank you for the lovely comments Donna and for uploading your images onto the blog.

This is my first dabble with felt, other than playing around with an embellishing machine.

I must admit when I knew I was going to miss 3 weeks from college during May,that was when my panic set in. Hence the hand felting of the individual flower petals on our trek across Europe. No,I didn't felt and drive! While hubby drove through some of the not so scenic parts of Europe, I felted away with just one barbed needle and a foam pad. (Thank you to Brenda for the suggestion). I spent hours just making a couple of flowers with the hand felting technique, so once we returned from holiday, I switched to wet felting and cut out the petal shapes, forming the flowers with a little hand felting and my single barbed needle.

The main body of the scarf was woven quite thin to resemble 'pre-felt' rather than a thickly matted felt. I think this allowed more flexibility with the design. The jagged, not so neat edges add interest to the scarf and enhance the design. I didn't make it in one piece, its made up of several pieces, that were then embellished together. In fact apart from the couching on the braid and the beadwork there wasn't any sewing involved.

I really enjoyed this project and already I've started to experiment with creative felting techniques and working on a boa. Watch this space.

PS: I'm more than happy to take commissions

  3. What a truly superb first attempt Angie.

This is the quality in design that people crave.

I've listened to your description about making this piece all along the way, and have to say it blew my mind when I saw it. I didn't imagine your initial artistic statement could be so wonderfully divine and without a doubt it ranks up there with the professionals.

I'm getting in the queue for this wonderful 'work of art'.
